A Clean Drinking Water Climate Project In Bangladesh

A Clean Drinking Water Climate Project In Bangladesh

Climate protection is important to us. That is why we avoid CO2 emissions wherever possible. Where this is not yet possible, we compensate, e.g. through eco-social projects like this one in Bangladesh.

Climate protection is our mission! That is why we avoid CO2 emissions wherever possible and are constantly finding new ways to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Where this is unfortunately not yet possible, we compensate by supporting eco-social projects:

In cooperation with the leading Viennese "Helioz" social enterprise, a project was created that has been guaranteeing families in Sarankhola, Bangladesh, clean drinking water since 2019.

In many areas of Bangladesh, surface water, which is the main source of drinking water alongside rainwater, is contaminated. It has to be painstakingly boiled before use. This requires firewood and unfortunately has negative effects on people and the environment:

  • Boiling produces CO2
  • Firewood is needed & the forest is cut down
  • Women need a lot of time to collect firewood
  • The constant smoke in the houses causes respiratory diseases, especially in children

Helioz has therefore developed a device that is as simple as it is ingenious:

WADI is a low-cost, solar-powered device that safely sterilises contaminated drinking water using sunlight.

Several families living next to each other can share a WADI. The device is placed in the sun next to the water bottles to be sterilised. A smiling face appears on the display when the water has reached drinking quality thanks to UV radiation.

The method is successful: There are fewer diseases and lower CO2 emissions. We are improving the climate and life of the people in Bangladesh in the long term - through better drinking water supply and by saving over 800 tons of CO2 per year!
