Cellulite on your bottom and legs isn't a reason to panic.

How does cellulite form and why?

Cellulite, or orange peel skin, often results from changes in the subcutaneous fat tissue on thighs and buttocks. It can also appear on the upper arms or abdomen. Between 80 and 90 percent of women will notice it at some point.

Orange peel appears just under the uppermost layer of skin (perhaps due to an accumulation of lymphatic fluid) where adipose tissue is criss-crossed by collagen strands. This structure swells under hormonal changes, often following changes during the menstrual cycle, and makes the shape of the collagen bands visible. The development of cellulite is therefore probably connected to oestrogen.

However, don't worry, cellulite is neither bad for you nor unhealthy. We think every body is beautiful the way it is and you should feel comfortable just the way you are! However, if cellulite bothers you, we have a few surprisingly simple tips for tightening your skin.

How to naturally combat cellulite?

Genetic predisposition plays a role in the formation of cellulite and we have no influence over our genetics, but lifestyle can influence whether you get cellulite and how extensive it is.

These simple tips will help prevent cellulite:

  • Hydrate
A sufficient supply of liquid is the prerequisite for elastic skin and firm connective tissue. 2-3 litres per day are a must! However, consider carefully what you're drinking. Sugar in sweet juices or teas can increase cellulite.
  • Healthy eating
The same rules apply here: In addition to sugar, avoid salt, fat and alcohol. All of these promote fat and water retention. An alkaline diet with lots of vegetables, fruit and wholegrain products can help. Plus, make sure you're getting enough vitamins and minerals.
  • Exercise & sport
Swimming, running and cycling strengthen the muscles in the most commonly affected parts of the body. Don't worry, you don't have to wear yourself out every day, 2-3 times a week should be enough. Plus, regular training combined with lots of fresh air is good for the soul!

In addition to a healthy lifestyle, the following tips specifically target cellulite:

1. Take a cold shower

Turning on the cold tap at the end of a warm shower works wonders for the circulatory system and stimulates blood flow. Slowly turn the temperature down and circle the shower head over the affected areas. This will also wake you up and fill you with energy for the rest of the day!

2. Dry brushing

We find that the most effective measure against cellulite is to get a body brush with vegan bristles or a massage brush with nubs. The brush should not be too soft. Then remove the accumulated liquids by massaging dry skin. Swelling and indents will subside and the skin will immediately appear firmer.

3. Massages

Finally, treat yourself to a massage with our anti-cellulite body oil. Caffeine, black pepper, ginger and mustard oil will get your blood circulation pumping. The oil has a firming effect and reduces water retention. Cold-pressed oils, such as argan, jojoba and wild rose, provide the skin with vitamins A, C and E.

By the way, some of those same ingredients, such as wild rose and argan oil, also help reduce the appearance of scars and treat stretch marks.

How to do it:
Massage the oil into your thighs and buttocks in circular motions. To intensify the effect, do a so-called plucking massage by pinching the skin with your fingers. Massages reduce water retention, swelling and adhesions. They stimulate fat breakdown and lymph flow, and tighten the tissue.

In this video, Sophie Prana shows you how to do a Gua Sha massage 1-2 times a week to combat cellulite. You could also use cupping glasses, which are great for stimulating lymph flow and removing toxins.

We recommend:
Combine all 3 tips in the above order and regularly follow them. After dry brushing, your skin will love the body oil and successfully absorb the active ingredients.

In order to achieve a visible improvement in skin structure in the long term, repeat these steps regularly. We integrated them into our routine after showering and now make a little time for an extensive massage with the Gua Sha stone once or twice a week.
